The Real Benefits of 1:1 Personal Training (And How It’s Different From Group Classes)
Group classes are brilliant for energy, community and pushing through a workout you might otherwise skip.
Personal training does something different.
It’s not better or worse than group training — it’s built for a different goal: you, specifically, and nothing else.
Here’s what 1:1 personal training in Amsterdam West actually gives you that a group session can’t.
You get a programme built only around you
In a group class, the workout has to work for everyone in the room. In a 1:1 session, it only has to work for you. That means your injuries, your goals, your schedule, your starting point, and your pace all shape the plan directly — nothing gets generalised.
Faster technical progress
Calisthenics rewards good technique. A pull-up, a handstand, a muscle-up — these are skill-based movements, and skill develops faster with direct feedback. In personal training, I’m watching every rep, correcting in real time, and adjusting the exercise the moment it stops matching your ability.
As one client, Roberta, put it: “You’re able to progress super fast and see real results.”
Accountability without the crowd
Some people love training in a group. Others find it easier to commit, focus and push themselves when it’s just the two of us. There’s nowhere to hide in a 1:1 session — in a good way. You show up, and we make that session count.
Training built around real injuries and limitations
This is where personal training really separates itself. If you’re carrying an old injury, recovering from physio, or simply need to avoid certain movements, a 1:1 programme can be built entirely around that — something that’s much harder to do in a group setting.
A coach who knows your history
Over time, I get to know how your body responds to training — what you find difficult, what you’re ready to progress, when you need a lighter week. That history is what makes programming sharper the longer we work together.
Is personal training better than group training?
Not necessarily — they solve different problems. Group training in Rembrandtpark is fantastic if you want community, energy and structure. Personal training is the better choice if you want your programme built entirely around your goals, your injuries, or a specific outcome you’re chasing. Plenty of our clients actually do both.
