What to Expect From Your First Personal Training Session in Amsterdam West
Booking your first personal training session is the easy part.
Knowing what actually happens once you show up? That’s usually the part people wonder about.
If you’ve been searching for personal training in Amsterdam West and picturing something intimidating — a shouting coach, a room full of machines you don’t understand — that’s not how it works at Famba.
Here’s exactly what to expect, from the moment you arrive at Rembrandtpark (or our indoor space two minutes away) to the plan you’ll walk away with.
What happens before your first session?
Every new client starts with a short, no-strings-attached consultation call. We talk about your goals, your current fitness level, any injuries or limitations, and what’s realistically achievable in the time you have. There’s no pressure and no obligation — it’s simply a conversation so I understand who you are before I ever coach you.
From there, if personal training feels like the right fit, we book your first session and build a starting plan around what you told me.
Where do personal training sessions take place?
Most sessions run outdoors at the calisthenics area in Rembrandtpark, right in Amsterdam West. It’s a great space — open air, room to move, and equipment suited to bodyweight training.
When the weather doesn’t cooperate, or you simply prefer training indoors, we have a private indoor space just two minutes from the park. Either way, your programme stays consistent — only the location changes.
What should I bring to my first session?
Nothing complicated. Comfortable training clothes, trainers you can move in, and a bottle of water. Because our method is built around calisthenics and bodyweight training, you don’t need to bring any equipment of your own — everything you need is already at Rembrandtpark or in the indoor space.
Will my first session match my fitness level?
Yes — that’s the entire point of 1:1 coaching. I’m not running you through a generic template. Your first session is as much an assessment as it is a workout: I’m watching how you move, where you’re strong, where you’re not, and what your body is ready for.
Whether you’ve never done a pull-up in your life or you’re already deep into your calisthenics journey, the session is built around your current ability, not someone else’s.
What will I feel like afterward?
Honestly — that depends on you. Some people leave feeling like they’ve barely broken a sweat because we spent the session on technique and control. Others feel it in muscles they forgot they had. Either is completely normal for a first session.
What matters more than soreness is whether the session made sense to you, and whether you left with a clearer idea of what a Famba programme actually looks like.
Who is personal training at Famba for?
Clients come to us from all over Amsterdam West and the surrounding neighbourhoods — Rembrandtpark Zuid, De Baarsjes, Overtoomse Veld, Westlandgracht, as well as Vondelpark and Oud-West. Some are complete beginners. Some are recovering from injury. Some are already experienced and want a coach who can take their calisthenics further. Personal training works because it adapts to whoever is in front of me, not the other way around.
As one client, Arne, put it: “Solly is a great personal trainer! You have the fun and motivation of being in a group, and at the same time you get your individual programme set up.”
What happens after your first session?
We build from there. Your programme develops session by session based on how you’re progressing, what’s working, and what your goals are. Personal training isn’t a single workout — it’s a relationship with your training that gets more precise over time.
