Personal Training in Amsterdam West: Your Most Common Questions, Answered

If you’ve been searching for a personal trainer in Amsterdam West, chances are you’ve got questions before you’ve got a booking.

That’s normal. Committing to personal training is a bigger decision than signing up for a gym membership, and it’s fair to want to know what you’re actually getting into before you reach out.

So here are the questions we get asked most about personal training in Amsterdam West — answered honestly, without the sales pitch.

Do I need to already be in shape to start?

No — if anything, it’s the opposite. Personal training is built for people who don’t already know how to train safely on their own. Whether you’ve never picked up a dumbbell or you used to be active years ago and lost the habit, your programme starts from where you actually are, not from some imagined starting line.

What actually happens in a session?

Every session is built around you — your goals, how your body’s feeling that day, and what you’re working toward over the coming weeks. Expect a warm-up, focused work on strength, mobility or technique depending on your programme, and a coach watching your form the entire time, not just counting your reps.

Do you train outdoors, indoors, or both?

Both, depending on what works for you and the weather. Most sessions run outdoors in Rembrandtpark, where we’ve got a proper set-up for bodyweight and strength training. When it’s cold, wet, or you’d simply rather train inside, we move to our indoor space two minutes away — same coaching, same programme, just under a roof.

What if the weather’s bad?

We don’t cancel on you. Dutch weather isn’t exactly reliable, so we plan around it rather than around it not happening. If it’s not a day for the park, we simply shift indoors.

How is this different from a gym membership?

A gym membership gives you access to equipment. Personal training gives you a plan, a coach who adjusts it as you progress, and someone checking your form so you’re not just guessing your way through a workout. It’s the difference between having the tools and having someone who actually shows you how to use them.

Do I need my own equipment?

No. Everything you need is already part of your sessions, whether we’re outdoors in the park or in the indoor space.

How do I know if it’s actually worth it?

The honest answer is that it depends what you’re comparing it to. If you’ve tried training on your own and kept stalling out, or you want to stop guessing and start seeing consistent progress, it tends to be worth it fast. As one client, Barbara, put it: “I’ve been training with Famba for almost a year, and it’s had more impact than any other exercise I’ve ever done.”
